IHC Numbers - May
Like I mentioned last night many of my numbers have taken a hit this month due to the chaos of starting a new job, getting sick, the smoke, and wisdom tooth pain; each week I would tell myself that I wasn't too far behind, that I would catch up next week, and inevitable each week had something new to throw at me.
I think a big part of the problems I'm having come from trying to bend my old routine to fit my new reality instead of adapting it to fit, so going forward I'm going to try some new things including setting aside 10 minutes everyday to take care of my non physical stuff (blogging/logging numbers/personal requirements/etc.) I also want to try blogging (voice to text) on my one long stretch of highway driving. (this was my plan from the start of my new job, but I hurt my throat quite bad at the start so I never got the chance to test if it will work or not)
I am also going to try to be extremely mindful about how I am "catching up" on things. I want to focus on establishing a new routine that works at the pace I was using before, and then sneak in a few extra reps when I can, but definitely not setting a new pace for myself that will overwhelm me from the start and ultimately drag me even further behind.
One silver-lining of all these changes and struggles, I walk a lot at work so for the first time this year (and since I joined last year) I am above my goal for steps! I know the spirit of this requirement is to take opportunities to make healthy decisions for yourself (choosing to go for a walk, taking the stairs, etc.) and just doing mindless walking that you would be doing anyway and tracking it is not the point at all, but although a big part of my progress is owed to the fact that it is in my job description, I am also going out of my way to walk up to someone far away to interact with them, or in the quiet moments between people I am always reflecting with gratitude that I have the opportunity to have such a wonderful job, and trying to take in the beauty and magic of being at the zoo as I'm walking. So I think as long as I stay mindful I can stick to the intent of this requirement.
(also really glad for this months mini challenge to try to boost my PU and SU that have taken a bit of a hit, so thank you Sihing Kohut!)
