10 Minutes

After tonight’s ‘be honest with yourself’ and ‘make and act on a plan to address the problem’ discussions I am once again trying to build a routine to consistently do mindful form reps.

Problem: I don’t have enough time to do my forms.
Question: how much can I get done in 10 minutes?

Additional Question: How long does it even take me to do a form rep? Speed is going to vary depending on intent and what I’m focusing on, but how long does an average rep take?

After setting a timer for 10 minutes I found that I am able to do 5 hand form and 3 weapon form reps.
10 minutes?
10 minutes?!
This whole time I was making excuses about “I have no time” “I need to go to bed earlier and doing all these forms keeps me up too late” “there’s too much to do when I get home with all my other requirements already”??
Even if all of those excuses were true, surely I can make time for 10 extra minutes a night.

Here I was thinking I would need to uproot my whole routine to fabricate a whole chunk of time to dedicate to doing my forms and this whole time I never thought to measure how long I actually need to set aside. Usually when I’m doing them since there is no end point I end up stretching the time by taking small breaks, getting water, analyzing, and occasionally just getting distracted. This whole thing goes back to what Sifu was trying to tell us tonight, that I can plan all I want but actually unless I put in the work to make progress that plan is going to stay a dream, and dreams won’t get me to 1000 reps.
